Doloroso means painfull. Pain runs through every corner of our lives. It’s not just physical, and it’s not necessarily bad. It’s a reminder that we can feel — that we’re alive. Pain pushes us to move, to change. It’s a teacher. To shift in order to avoid it is survival.

At the same time, pain is one of the few things that connects opposites — birth and death. We come into the world crying, and most likely, we’ll leave it the same way. It’s inevitable. What lies in between is a long training in how to endure it. Art can be born from pain — from what breaks us open inside. And it can also die with pain — this time, through the struggle of expression. Living off art is tough. But it’s possible. With blood, sweat, and tears — it’s possible. Doloroso Studio carries a drop that represents those three hard-earned fluids.

Doloroso Studio is an audiovisual production house. We’re filmmakers and photographers. Writers who love the pleasure of storytelling; cinematographers who see through lenses instead of eyes; and photographers aiming to paint with light.

We have a distinct style. A visual signature we stand by. We create the kind of work we wish people would ask us to make. In fact, we’re our best — and worst — client.

Without pain, there are no scars that burn into memory. No bleeding. No resonance. There’s no life. No love. Read that again, and remember: Pain is necessary. What you do with it is your choice.
